Microsoft is Ending Support for Dynamics GP and Concluding New Customer Sales of the ERP – What This Means for You

In 2019, Microsoft introduced the Modern Lifecycle Policy for Dynamics GP, shifting away from the previous Fixed Lifecycle Policy.

Key Support Updates for Dynamics GP

Fixed Lifecycle Versions

Mainstream support has already ended for Fixed Lifecycle versions, but each product will receive extended support until specific dates.

Modern Lifecycle Versions

Microsoft has officially announced that support for all Dynamics GP versions will end on December 31, 2029. After this date, product enhancements, regulatory (tax) updates, and technical support will no longer be available. However, security updates and patches, if needed, will continue until April 30, 2031.

Options for the Future with Dynamics GP

If your business relies on GP, you should explore your options before support phases out. Microsoft provides multiple paths based on your business needs:

  • Cloud-Based Migration: Companies looking to transition to the cloud can migrate to Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) or Dynamics 365 Finance for enhanced flexibility and access to cloud-based functionalities.
  • Staying On-Premises with GP: If an on-premises solution remains the best fit for your business, upgrading to Dynamics GP 2018 or 2018 R2 and applying the latest tax release or hotfix transitions your system to the Modern Lifecycle Policy, ensuring updates until the final Microsoft support deadline.
  • On-Premises Migration to Dynamics 365: If you prefer to remain on-premises but no longer wish to use GP, you may explore Dynamics 365 on-premises as an alternative.

These options empower you to choose the path that best aligns with your business's requirements and future goals. TIP! Check with your ERP business partner to see if there are any incentives to migrate.

End of New Customer Sales for Dynamics Products

Microsoft has also announced significant changes to the sale and licensing of Dynamics 365 BC on-premises and GP: End of new sales timeline for GP blog

Existing customers and BC on-premises subscription sales are not affected by this announcement. Customers who already own the product before the end-of-sales date will continue to receive support, updates, and fixes for their systems. Microsoft’s focus is on ensuring a smooth transition for customers while aligning with their future plans and strategies.
